A simple but beautiful form of Japanese embroidery. You may have seen this technique become popular in recent years but you might not be aware of the history of Sashiko.

The technique is around 400 yrs old. Possibly originating from rural North Japan.

Climates were harsh and fabrics were hard to grow but hemp was accessible and indigo dying was the only way to apply colour but in the dark nights Sashiko was used to decorate clothes as a contrast colour.

Japan is known for its linear, minimal, clean look. This technique is a great step back in time while tackling a modern project.

Kit includes:

  • 100% cotton ivory fabric
  • 40m of Japanese navy cotton embroidery thread.
  • 4 inch Shippou template.
  • blue water soluble fabric pencil & gold-eye embroidery needles (size 3-9) x 16pcs.
  • Full instruction on packaging.

Approximate finished size: 65 x 35cm.
